1990 Rover Mini Cooper RSP S Pack in red with a white roof, bonnet stripes and mirrors. The RSP (Rover Special Product) was made by John Cooper to reintroduce the mini Cooper back into production. From 1971 – 1990 the mini Cooper was not made and the only available cars were 998cc minis. John Cooper fitted a Metro 1275cc engine to a Mini 30 plus added some Cooper touches like bonnet stripes, white roof, and Minilite alloy wheels and 1050 were produced for the UK market. Due to the success of this car the mini Cooper then sold for an additional 10 years until the new BMW mini was made. John Cooper also gave the option of the S Pack which made the RSP into a Cooper S with an improved Cooper S cylinder head (blue), exhaust manifold / Janspeed exhaust (still on the car) , twin 1.25 SU carburettors and an oil cooler. This conversion made the RSP very exciting but was an expensive option so only a few where ever made. He also offered a Handling Pack which consisted of wider 165 performance tyres, 5 mm wheel spacers and sports shock absorbers which is also fitted to this car. The conversion cost £2900 31 years ago and I have all of the John Cooper Garages paperwork. A Mini Cooper umbrella was also on the invoice and is still with the car its original rapping. This outstanding ‘time warp’ example has covered just 9150 miles from new and has always been a garaged / collectors car. The bumper over-riders were also fitted at John Cooper Garages. John Cooper was famous for his interesting number plates and this has a typical quirky number plate which adds to the car. To my eye the paintwork is all original! I have just fitted 4 new Yokohama A539 tyres which I feel are the best for the mini. Every detail on this car is right and the condition is remarkable. When new they were sprayed with yellow wax underneath and this is still present. The underside is immaculate and all factory original. The interior is also immaculate and the carpets ( which can deteriorate) still look close to new.  Driving this mini feels very special. You get the legendary Cooper S performance and handling but in a very usable package. It is smooth and refined while also being engaging and fun. In my view this ‘time warp’ example is the ultimate collectors car. Due to it having its original paint the condition is completely honest with no nasty surprises hidden by new paintwork.  In years to come this will become more special as most have seen too much British weather. This could well be the best RSP S Pack remaining in the World. I do have a complete history file of all past MOT’s, original book pack, original bill of sale, original John Cooper conversion invoices and Cooper S Conversion certificate signed personally by John Cooper in its original black wallet.
