1968 MK2 Morris Mini Fast Road Spec. This fantastic mini has been restored and built by an experienced engineer who has a very good eye for quality engineering and high standards. The 1968 shell is in great condition and has had some new panels. The engine and gearbox was built by Bill Richards and is based on a Cooper S AEG312 engine block, bored to +60, so is now 1340 cc. It uses the original S crank and rods, with Powermax pistons. On the end of the crank is a lightened flywheel with steel backplate and orange diaphragm, on top of the block now sits a very nice ported cylinder head from Mini Spares. The camshaft is a piper 270. Feeding the head with fuel is a pair of hs4 carbs, with MED filter with stub stacks. It has an LCB manifold and a side exit RC40 exhaust system. The distributor is an electronic ‘123’ type. It has a hi torque started motor and an oil cooler behind the grill. It has only been run on Valvoline vr1 20/50 engine oil. The radiator is a 4 core type with a sensor in the bottom which switches on the electric fan plus it has a manual override.

Being an early shell the gearbox had to be a remote type, so it has a 22g1128 4 synchro box with a Mini Spares cross pin diff, and a 3.2/1 final drive. Both subframes are power coated and have adjustable height trumpets from Mini Spares and adjustable bottom arms and tie rods from Minisport, the brakes are 7.5inch front discs, with Minisport 4 pot callipers and Minifin drums on the rear and a Cooper S master cylinder.

It has Rose Petal alloys with Yokohama A008 tyres.  The interior has black carpets, the original dash and clocks plus an additional rev counter. The steering wheel is a nicely patinated wooden rimed Motalita. The head lining is original and in nice condition. The seats are not from a mini but are very comfortable and supportive with adjustable slide and tilt. I was going to change them but when you sit in them they are the best seats to have.

The end result is a very well engineered, fast road period Mini which looks great and drives very well. The longer final drive means that you are doing 4000 RPM at 70 MPH which allows for longer trips. It does not feel fragile like a lot of minis of this age and is far better to drive than most  standard Cooper S Minis at twice the price.

This would appeal to a driver who loves the open road and enjoys the ‘Old School’ classic car experience. Free delivery to your door within 200 miles of Tiverton.
