1962 Austin Mini 1340 cc Cooper S replica. This outstanding mini has been built by a retired BMC engineer. He started off by restoring the body panel by panel with great care taken to get the shut lines and doors fitting correctly, which can be tricky with a MK 1 mini. Once the shell was complete all of the parts fitted were new or refurbished. The running gear is all new including the engine, gearbox, brakes, steering etc. The engine was built for him which is a 1340 cc Austin 1300 engine on a Cooper S gearbox with the cast remote gear change. It has a balanced crank, steel flywheel, Duplex timing gear, high pressure oil pump, forged pistons and a 1300 GT cylinder head. It has a Cooper S distributer, twin HS4 Carburettors on a steel inlet manifold with a large bore LCB exhaust manifold, plus an oil cooler. The gearbox has Cooper S ratios plus a central oil pick up and cross pin differential. The brakes are all new with Cooper S 7.5 inch discs at the front and Minifins on the rear. It has Hi Lows front and rear on standard cones and 1.5 degrees of negative camber on the front. New Bilstein shock absorbers were fitted plus new Cooper S 4.5 inch wheels on new Yokohama tyres. It has the correct twin fuel tanks as fitted to the Cooper S minis. The interior has the correct Cooper S speedo which is correctly calibrated to the gearbox. A new wiring loom was fitted and all of the electrical items work well. The pictures should give you a good idea of the time and effort that has been put into the build of this mini. Unfortunately as the mini was completed the owner became ill and was only well enough to be a passenger in the mini before he died. His widow as been struggling to come to terms with selling his pride and joy but after 3 years of keeping hold of it has decided to sell the mini. It has only covered 300 miles since the build was finished so still needs running in by its new owner. It drives really well and feel very strong and usable. This is a local Mini to me and I know the garages used to help build this mini including the engine builder who is very well respected and has been working on classic cars for decades.
