1961 Morris Mini Minor 1380 60s street racer in its factory colour of Cherry Red. This is one of the very best minis that I have ever been fortunate enough to buy and drive. It is hard to know where to start to explain the rarity and quality of the car and the rewarding drive that it gives. The mini was made in April 1961 as a RHD car for the home market. It was taken overseas until the 1990s when it returned to the UK. It was then dry stored until 2009 when it was registered and enjoyed on the UK roads. Looking at the body condition and talking to the previous owner we can only assume it went to a dry climate as the body looks to be original. As you will appreciate with a 57 year old mini the history and work carried out over the years is not always a known thing. To my eye all of the body panels look to be original or fitted to look like they are, with great detail to replicate the original spot welds. As a result the shell is very straight with lovely panel gaps and close fitting doors, bonnet and boot. My theory is also supported by the body numbers being present in the floor pans which with many cars were rusty and replaced after 10 years. There are many very early details like the seat hinges, straight gear lever, smooth sills, and centrally hinging sun visors. The engine was fitted in 2013 by the previous owner which is a masterpiece and gives strong performance while also feeling wonderfully strong and well engineered. It has twin 1.25 SU carburettors which have been set up at Mini Sport on the rolling road where the engine produced 83 BHP on its first run prior to running in. The engine has now completed around 1800 miles. The speedo was rebuilt at the same time which shows the mileage of the engine not the car. The front brakes are 7.5 inch Cooper S and wider Cooper S drums on the rear. It has a nice 3 branch exhaust manifold and Maniflow rear exhaust box which sounds wonderful. The wheels are Minilite with sticky Yokohama tyres which all adds to the period look. Driving this mini is addictive and on my first trip out when I was buying it I didn't want it to end. When the road allows it picks up and pulls strongly through the gears making it fantastic fun to drive. It is very well behaved but equally wants to be driven and loves to rev. Some of the early cars can feel fragile but this feels like you could drive it all day! The interior has 2 period bucket seats which give great support. I do also have the original seats which are included and are in nice original condition. There is also an oil pressure and water temperature gauge. This would be a very hard car to replace and I can imagine its new owner never wanting to part with it. I have a nice history file with a Heritage Certificate with matching body colour, chassis number and body numbers.
