1961 Austin Seven Mini in factory Tartan Red. This mini has been owned for the last 41 years by Philip Splett. Philip has helped to run the Mini Cooper Register for the last 35 years including being chairman. His passion for Minis lead to him owning many over the years but he always kept 3 right up to the stage where he is no longer able to comfortably drive them. He has driven the minis all over Europe and can now think back over the great times he had had driving them.
This fantastic mini is just a joy to see and drive. It has all of its original body panels which after 58 years is just remarkable. It has always been driven and enjoyed and made regular trips to France. Prior to Philip buying the car back in 1978 it was owned by a BMC engineer who worked in the Austin factory. When the 998 cc engine was introduced he fitted a new one to the mini in the factory as there is a noticeable power advantage. He also fitted some lovely additional gauges inside to include water temperature, oil pressure and amps. These are all very old now and have a great patina to them. Everything works as it should and the interior feels so special and original. The sunroof adds an additional fun factor to the car. The engine and gearbox were rebuilt by Roger Hill in 2009 and it has covered 2000 miles since. This is the smoothest A series engine I have ever known. This is also the best MK 1 mini I have ever driven. It feels tight and precise while giving a smooth ride and great ability to waft along with the roof back on a sunny day. I have 30 past MOT certificates, all of the past log books inc the original buff log book. An original owners manual, a Heritage Certificate plus pictures and receipts. This is a very special original 58 year old mini which will give many hours of fun and enjoyable summer trips. Free delivery to your door in my curtain sided van within 200 miles of South Molton.
