1973 Austin Mini, Cooper Car Company replica. This mini was created in 1976 and was the first replica made of the Works Cooper Cars. It has been owned for the last 43 years by Philip Splett. Philip has helped to run the Mini Cooper Register for the last 35 years including being chairman. His passion for Minis lead to him owning many over the years but he always kept 3 right up to the stage where he is no longer able to comfortably drive them. He has driven the minis all over Europe and can now think back over the great times he has had driving them.
This famous mini has been driven by John Cooper, John Rhodes and Michael Bowler (ex Jaguar racing driver test drive report inc). It has been featured in many hard back books and magazines (including Jeremy Waltons guide to the Coopers) which are all included in the history file. It was first registered as PHR 161M and then had a number plate change to 007 848 which is included with the car. The car has been regularly used and when not in use very well stored and meticulously maintained and cared for. This is not a restored car and is in original and wonderful condition. The common areas of corrosion like the front wings, sills and floors are all original and still their body numbers or original spot welds. Mechanically this is a fast and very sorted car. It goes, stops and handles very well and this is a car that you will just take out for a drive for fun. The engine has recently been rebuilt by Roger Hill and is a balanced 1380 GT engine with Cooper S cylinder head and gearbox. It has a Swiftune SW5 cam, cross pin diff, twin 1.5 inch carbs and produces a claimed 93 BHP. It has covered 1000 miles since the rebuild. The brakes are Cooper S 7.5 inch discs with an internally located servo. Corning is helped by wide Minilite GB alloy wheels with matching Yokohama A008 tyres. It has Spax shocks absorbers, adjustable suspension and a rear anti roll bar. The interior has supportive period Corbeau seats, Safety Devises rear cage and an additional rev counter. It has a period radio cassette which 70s tapes inc! The sunroof in a metal internally sliding Britax prototype roof which is very rare and works well (period sales brochure inc). It has twin fuel tanks which worked really well when touring Europe. The Brooklands green paint work is in good condition and the hand painted stripes and decals have been on the car for 43 years. The Works style roof rack is included and can easily be removed. This is a very rare and special car which is on the market for the first time in 43 years. 1972 Austin Mini Cooper 1275 S Downton Touring in Teal blue. This mini was bought by Philip Splett in 1973 and he has owned it for 46 years. This mini was delivered to Downton Engineering when on 113 miles. Downton then completely stripped the engine and rebuilt it to their standards balancing all parts as necessary. New Hs4 twin carburettors where fitted onto the Downton stage 3 cylinder head which breathed through a new modified exhaust system. The gearbox was modified by adding a central oil pick up and the flywheel was lightened. The end result was a smooth, refined, free revving engine which has now covered 50600 miles and is running wonderfully. I have all of the original Downton paperwork for the conversion to this mini. When Philip bought the car he changed the wheels to 6 by 10 Minilites with Special Tuning arches, had the suspension changed to dry with shock absorbers which was all carried out by Jon Mowatt in the 70s. The car has featured in lots of books including Jeremy Waltons Guide to the Cooper. There is a road test report of the car by Michael Bowler (ex Jaguar racing driver) and another full test drive report by John Surtees (ex F1 driver). It is the 5th to last MK 3 Cooper S ever made and Philip assures me that it is all original including the paint which after 47 years is remarkable. I do have all of the past MOTs from new as well as a fascinating history file of paperwork, magazines and photographs taken over the last 46 years. There is also a wonderful Dion Pears painting of the car which is very large and impressive and adds to this remarkable package. The original Lime Flower interior is very clean and the original carpets still look good today. The Wabasto Sunroof was fitted by Popperwells in the 70s and works very well and is in immaculate condition. The car was ordered from new with a Silent Travel Kit which was a factory option and fully insulates the interior which is still there under the carpets and in the boot. This is a once in a life time opportunity to buy a very well known Downton Cooper S from a well known owner who has cared for the car for 46 years, which is in original condition and has a remarkable history file. Free delivery to your door in my curtain sided van within 200 miles of South Molton. This mini is very hard to price due to its unique nature so is being offered with a guide price of £40,000 - £50,000 offers welcomed.

1990 Rover Mini Cooper RSP S Pack in red with a white roof, bonnet stripes and mirrors. The RSP (Rover Special Product) was made by John Cooper to reintroduce the mini Cooper back into production. From 1971 1990 the mini Cooper was not made and the only available cars were 998cc minis. John Cooper fitted a Metro 1275cc engine to a Mini 30 plus added some Cooper touches like bonnet stripes, white roof, and Minilite alloy wheels and 1050 were produced for the UK market. Due to the success of this car the mini Cooper then sold for an additional 10 years until the new BMW mini was made. John Cooper also gave the option of the S Pack which made the RSP into a Cooper S with an improved Cooper cylinder head (blue), exhaust manifold / exhaust, twin 1.25 SU carburettors and an oil cooler. This conversion made the RSP very exciting but was an expensive option so only a few where ever made. He also offered a Handling Pack which consisted of wider 165 performance tyres, 5 mm wheel spacers and Koni shock absorbers which is also fitted to this car. It also has twin fuel tanks, rear anti roll bar and quick shift gear change all fitted by John Cooper Garages with an invoice for all the work in the very comprehensive history file. I also have the original conversion certificate signed by John Cooper. The history file also has every past MOT to support the mileage of 44700 miles in the last 29 years. It was bought on under 200 miles by its past owner who has enjoyed it for the last 28 years. The car was waxoiled from new which has kept the car in fantastic, original condition. This really is a very rare and special opportunity to own a piece of mini Cooper history and should give its new owner an exciting and very enjoyable driving experience and long term investment. ** NOW SOLD ** 1990 Rover Mini Cooper RSP in black with a white roof, bonnet stripes and mirrors. The RSP (Rover Special Product) was made by John Cooper to reintroduce the mini Cooper back into production. From 1971 to 1990 the mini Cooper was not made and the only available cars were 998cc minis. Due to the success of this car the mini Cooper then sold for an additional 10 years until the new BMW mini was made. This has become one of the most sort after Mini Cooper models due to way it drives and that it is one of the last carburettor Coopers produced. This outstanding example has covered just 2800 miles from new. It has always been a garaged investment car and driven on special occasions. It has had 4 new Yokohama A539 tyres and a new RC 40 exhaust system while being serviced. It is now as sharp as ever and ready for its new owner to enjoy it over the Spring and Summer. This Mini gives an old style feel, much like the 60s Coopers, but is far more usable and suitable for the demanding roads of today. Most have covered big mileages and have been rebuilt so it is lovely to find such an original car. This will make a very exciting car to own and drive while also being a great long term investment.
